10 Dermaplaning Myths Debunked

Written by The Hampton Clinic | Oct 27, 2024 10:40:37 PM

New to The Hampton Clinic, dermaplaning gently removes dead skin cells and facial peach fuzz with a sterile blade. It’s a form of physical exfoliation that leaves your skin incredibly smooth, radiant and ready to soak up all the goodness from your skincare routine. A big bonus after dermaplaning is that it creates a perfect base for makeup, allowing it to glide on effortlessly for a perfect finish.

Safe even for sensitive skin when done properly, dermaplaning offers both an immediate glow and long-term benefits by stimulating skin renewal, but unfortunately some people are missing out due to common misconceptions about the treatment. That’s why we’ve put together 10 of the most frequently asked questions about dermaplaning to clear up any myths and help you discover just how amazing this treatment can be. Keep reading to dive into all things dermaplaning.

Can all skin types have dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is suitable for all skin types but not if you have active acne, rosacea, or inflamed skin conditions. Your aesthetic practitioner can advise you on the best treatment options for you.

Is dermaplaning painful?

Not at all! Most clients find it very relaxing.

Isn’t dermaplaning just like shaving my face?

It might look similar, but it’s definitely not the same. Dermaplaning uses a specialised sterile blade to gently remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz, giving you a thorough exfoliation that regular razors can’t achieve. Plus, you’ll enjoy the added skin benefits of a complete facial experience.

Will my hair grow thicker or darker?

Absolutely not. Dermaplaning does not change the thickness, colour or growth rate of hair. Because dermaplaning can’t change the structure of your hair, it will grow back the same, just as soft and light as before.

How often should I get dermaplaning?

We recommend every 4 to 6 weeks, but it can vary depending on your skin type and goals. This gives your skin time to renew and enjoy the treatment benefits.

Can I wear makeup after dermaplaning?

Yes, you can. In fact, your makeup will go on smoother than ever. Dermaplaning creates an even surface, helping your foundation look flawless and last longer.

How does dermaplaning help with skincare?

Dermaplaning works wonders by removing the top layer of dead skin cells and any peach fuzz that might be trapping dirt and oils. This exfoliation clears the way for your skincare products to penetrate more effectively, allowing them to absorb deeper and work better. With regular dermaplaning, you'll notice improved hydration, better product performance, and an overall smoother skin texture.

How much dermaplaning costs at The Hampton Clinic?

We offer two treatment options:

Dermaplaning (45min) for £65 or Dermaplaning + Hydrating Mask + Dermalux LED (60min) for £110

The combination treatment is perfect for those looking for an extra boost of hydration and glow with the added benefits of LED light therapy.

What should I do to prepare for dermaplaning?

Avoid exfoliating products (like retinol, BHAs or AHAs) a few days before your appointment. Avoid sun exposure, especially if you are prone to sunburns and redness, in the week or two leading up to your appointment.

Can I do dermaplaning at home?

While at-home tools exist, they lack the precision, safety, and results of professional dermaplaning. Our aesthetic practitioners use a sterile surgical blade and tailored technique to ensure an effective and safe treatment.

Does dermaplaning cause breakouts?

Dermaplaning itself doesn’t cause breakouts and it can help prevent them by keeping pores clean and removing trapped debris. However, those prone to acne should consult us before booking an appointment, as dermaplaning isn’t recommended for active acne.
