Microneedling
in Bristol

Controlled micro channels in the skin that stimulate its own repair response. It is one of the more adaptable things we do, because the depth and approach change according to the area being treated and the concern being addressed.

What microneedling does

Microneedling uses controlled micro channels within the skin to stimulate the skin's natural repair response.

It can be used to improve skin texture, fine lines, enlarged pores and certain types of scarring, including acne scarring, while supporting collagen production and overall skin quality.

Treatment depth and approach can be adjusted according to the area being treated and to your individual skin concerns. That adaptability is why it sits inside so many different plans, and why two people having microneedling are not necessarily having the same treatment.

Acne scarring and texture

Textural concerns are what people most often come to us about, and acne scarring is the one that carries the most weight for the person living with it.

Microneedling can be used for certain types of scarring, which is a deliberate phrase rather than a hedge: not all scarring behaves the same way, and what is appropriate depends on what your skin is actually doing. That is established at the assessment, not from a photograph.

Where this sits in your plan, whether it is used on its own or alongside something else, and how many sessions we recommend, all follow from the assessment rather than from a package chosen in advance.

Why the assessment comes first

Nothing at The Hampton Clinic begins with a treatment. It begins with a consultation and an assessment, because the same concern can have different causes in two different people and the right answer is not always the treatment someone walked in asking about.

If we do not believe this is appropriate for you, or likely to benefit you, we will say so and recommend what we think would serve you better.

What the evidence says

The two questions people ask most are how many sessions and how long the redness lasts. Here is what an NHS trust tells its own patients.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust describes microneedling as a minimally invasive, controlled process of repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny sterile needles. Its patient leaflet says skin afterwards looks red, similar to sunburn, and that the redness should improve one to two days after treatment. It describes four to six sessions as normally required, spaced a minimum of six weeks apart, and states plainly that the procedure will not make a scar disappear.

That is an NHS trust describing the procedure in general, not our protocol. Your own course, and whether microneedling is the right route to your concern at all, is set at your skin assessment.

Suitability

Honest about who
it is for.

It may suit you if

  • Skin texture, fine lines or enlarged pores are what bother you
  • You have acne scarring or other textural scarring
  • You want your own skin to do the work rather than adding volume
  • You are prepared for improvement to build rather than arrive at once

It is not the answer if

  • Your main concern is firmness and laxity rather than texture
  • You want a single appointment to settle everything
  • Your skin has not been assessed yet
  • Assessment suggests a different approach is more appropriate for your scarring

Questions

Before
you book.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling uses controlled micro channels within the skin to stimulate the skin's natural repair response. It can be used to improve skin texture, fine lines, enlarged pores and certain types of scarring, while supporting collagen production and overall skin quality.

Can microneedling help acne scarring?

It can be used for certain types of scarring, including acne scarring. Not all scarring behaves the same way, so whether it is appropriate for yours is established at your consultation and skin assessment rather than assumed.

Is microneedling the same for everyone?

No. Treatment depth and approach are adjusted according to the area being treated and your individual skin concerns, so two people having microneedling are not necessarily having the same treatment.

Do I need to know which treatment I want before booking?

No. Most people arrive describing a concern rather than requesting a procedure, and that is the more useful way round. Your consultation and skin assessment establish what is bothering you, what is realistically achievable and which treatment, or combination, is appropriate.

What if this turns out not to be suitable for me?

We will tell you, and recommend an alternative where appropriate, rather than proceeding simply because it was the treatment you originally enquired about.

How much does it cost?

Skin treatment plans are quoted after your consultation and skin assessment, because the cost depends on what is being treated and whether more than one approach is appropriate. Your full plan and its cost are set out for you before you commit to anything. The consultation itself is complimentary, secured by a £25 holding fee that is refunded when you attend.
